June 29, 2019: The North Hollywood North East Neighborhood Council has been contacted by the ATT Pioneers/ Coastal Valley Council.  They are the San Fernando Valley Council of their national organization, a 501 (c) (3) charity that strives to partner with communities to make a positive impact on the neighborhoods they work in.

They have been partnering with Councilmember Krekorian’s office, Assemblywoman Rivas’ office and Caltrans to develop a plan to restore the Lars Hawkes Sculpture on the 170 freeway. They have surveyed the damage with a local artist and have a solid plan to complete the work. The artist has submitted a budget proposal of $10,000 to remove the sculptures, sand blast them, repair all the physical damage, repaint them and then reinstall them.

The ATT Pioneers/ Coastal Valley Council has committed to assisting financially as well as adopting the section of the freeway going forward so their volunteers can maintain the artwork. They have submitted a Neighborhood Purposes Grant request in July 2019 to seek funding from NHNENC, which NHNENC approved at its July 10 meeting.
