November 4, 2019: TreePeople has assumed leadership of the Calabasas-based Mountains Restoration Trust, a non-profit land trust responsible for the preservation and restoration of 3,000 acres in the Santa Monica Mountains. This is a historic day for our community.

This new affiliation positions us as the largest environmental non-profit in the region and dramatically expands our outreach, education, advocacy, preservation and restoration mission. It also expands our donor and volunteer base and allows for an urgently needed structure to engage both mountain and urban communities towards the common goal of creating a diverse, healthy and climate resilient environment for all.

We should all be proud of the movement we have created together. Now more than ever, TreePeople needs to increase its partnership, outreach and engagement if we are to be an effective leader in finding solutions to climate change. This is one of several steps we have taken over recent years to achieve that goal, and this is only the beginning.

I want to thank the leadership of our board for their wisdom and vision, and welcome the Mountains Restoration Trust family into ours.

As we brace for the prospect of a year-round fire season and answer increasing needs to protect and restore lands we hold dear, I want to thank you for generously supporting our efforts in the Santa Monica Mountains throughout the decades.

We invite you to join us in healing lands destroyed by fires and conserving lands provided to us by nature. Visit www.treepeople.org and join our cause.
