On Saturday, March 7, community members gathered at Arminta Street Elementary School for the “Be Part of the Change” Interactive Workshop, an event designed to empower residents with tools and resources to improve their neighborhoods.
Hosted by the North Hollywood Northeast Neighborhood Council (NHNENC) in partnership with EmpowerLA, LA Sanitation and Environment, Los Angeles Public Library, the Sun Valley Area Neighborhood Council, and NERI, the workshop helped kick off LA 311 Week with a focus on civic engagement and community action.
Residents learned how to use the MyLA311 mobile app to report common city service issues such as potholes, graffiti, streetlight outages, bulky item pickup, and other neighborhood concerns. The workshop also provided practical information about waste sorting, recycling, and composting through the City’s SORT LA program, helping participants understand how to reduce landfill waste and support Los Angeles’ sustainability goals.
Representatives from the Los Angeles Public Library were also present to connect attendees with free community resources and assist residents interested in obtaining a library card.
The event also created space for neighbors to meet members of their Neighborhood Council, learn about local civic participation, and explore opportunities to volunteer and take action in their community.
NHNENC extends a special thank you to Kelly Gonez, LAUSD Board Member for District 6, and Arminta Street Elementary School for hosting the event and supporting efforts to bring important city resources directly to the community.
Most importantly, we thank the North Hollywood residents who showed up, asked questions, and took part in the conversation. Events like these demonstrate the power of community engagement and the impact that informed residents can have in keeping our neighborhoods clean, safe, and connected.
NHNENC looks forward to continuing to work alongside community partners and residents to strengthen civic participation across North Hollywood.
