The Planning and Land Use Committee met twice in May on the topic of the proposed development at 7660-7702 & 7718-7728 N. Lankershim Blvd. The project includes the construction of 99 small lot residential homes on 3.9 acres and a 64 unit apartment complex. The proposal also calls for four apartment units to be at the Very Low Income level in exchange for a decreased front set back from 15 ft to 5 ft, decreased rear set back from 15 ft to 10 ft and increased maximum height from 45 to 52 feet.
After hearing a complete presentation, the committee was divided on the proposal and it proceeded to the full board on May 18. There was again a complete presentation on the project. A primary concern was regarding traffic on Lankershim. One suggestion was that Irvine Avenue on the north end of the project be an access point. However, the width of the street was deemed insufficient for the flow of traffic and the Irvine Avenue residents were on hand to voice their opposition to opening the project to their street. Ultimately, the proposal which has been discussed by the Board for two years was approved and moves forward to a public hearing.
