If you have driven northbound on the 170 freeway in North Hollywood, you may have seen the prominent Lars Hawkes sculpture installation just past the Sherman Way exit. The Lars Hawkes sculpture was previously installed as part of an art initiative created to coincide with the 1984 Olympics games. Over the years this sculpture fell into disrepair. This sculpture is a landmark in the San Fernando Valley. Assemblymember Luz Rivas worked with AT&T Pioneers, Councilmember Paul Krekorian, and Caltrans to gather all the necessary permits and permissions needed to move forward with the re-installation of the Sculpture.
February 5, 2021 was the new installation of the remodel sculpture. We are excited that our community will get to enjoy this sculpture again!
Special thanks to At&t Pioneers Pacific Chapter, Artist Scott Froschauer Art, and Assemblymember Luz Rivas for all their contributions and willingness to make this re-installation happen.
