Sculpture removal

NORTH HOLLYWOOD – For more than 30 years, the public space at the Sherman Way exit of the 170 Freeway has been occupied by two exceptional sculptures by artist Lars Hawkes, commissioned in commemoration of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and installed in 1987. This week, the sculptures were removed; don’t worry, it’s only temporary. Local artist Scott Froscher is repairing and refurbishing the artworks, which have been subjected to the elements for over three decades.

North Hollywood North East Neighborhood Council is proud to collaborate with the Office of Councilmember Krekorian to fund this beautification project and restore the sculptures to their original state. Special thanks to the employee volunteers from AT&T, Caltrans, and the Office of Assemblymember Luz Rivas for their help in bringing this project to fruition.

The sculptures will be returned revitalized, early 2020.
