The North Hollywood Northeast Neighborhood Council (NHNENC) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the 2025 EmpowerLA Award for the South Valley Region, recognizing exemplary leadership, governance, and service to the community.
NHNENC was selected from among all South Valley neighborhood councils for its effective administration, community engagement, and sustained advocacy on citywide policy issues. The award highlights the council’s consistent commitment to transparency, responsiveness, and collaboration with residents and civic partners.
Presented at the 2025 Los Angeles Congress of Neighborhoods
The award was formally presented to NHNENC at the 2025 Los Angeles Congress of Neighborhoods on Saturday, September 27, 2025, held at Los Angeles City Hall. The annual Congress brings together neighborhood council leaders, city officials, and community stakeholders from across Los Angeles for a day of workshops, networking, and recognition of outstanding civic leadership.
During the EmpowerLA Awards Ceremony, NHNENC was honored by the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) and the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners for its exceptional performance and measurable community impact throughout the past fiscal year.
Our Progress and Impact
This recognition reflects the tremendous growth and dedication of our board and community over the last several years. NHNENC has evolved into a highly active, effective council that consistently delivers results.
In the past year alone, NHNENC has:

Filed 49 Community Impact Statements, shaping City policy on housing, public safety, environmental sustainability, and equity.

Hosted and co-hosted more than a dozen community events, including emergency preparedness fairs, town halls, and cleanups in partnership with city departments and local organizations.

Established and revitalized committees such as Housing & Transportation and Planning and Land Use to ensure greater public input on development and mobility issues.

Maintained a strong outreach presence, tabling at more than 15 community events and publishing a monthly newsletter with consistent engagement growth.

Spent nearly the entirety of its annual budget on direct community benefits, outreach, and neighborhood improvements.
