NHNENC Declares North Hollywood Northeast is a Safe Haven for Transgender People

Transgender rights

The North Hollywood Northeast Neighborhood Council declares North Hollywood Northeast as a Safe Haven Neighborhood for transgender individuals, and explicitly affirms the validity and rights of transgender people, including trans youth in sports and education.

The NHNENC condemns recent statements that frame trans inclusion in sports as a fairness issue, recognizing such rhetoric as a harmful and misleading attack on transgender rights. Our community, including our students in North Hollywood-area schools, deserve to learn and grow in an environment where they are safe, supported, and free from discrimination, including the ability to participate in school sports, access affirming healthcare, and express their gender identity without fear.

The NHNENC opposes any and all attempts on the local, city, county, state, and federal levels to undermine the autonomy and self-determination of transgender individuals as it relates to their gender identity. The NHNENC urges the Los Angeles City Council to strengthen protections for transgender individuals, ensuring that local institutions uphold inclusive policies regardless of federal or state political shifts. This includes, but is not limited to, asking Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and all local healthcare providers to publicly commit to maintaining gender-affirming healthcare and to resist any future political interference that seeks to restrict these essential medical services.

The NHNENC knows that trans rights are human rights, and knows that healthcare is a human right. Therefore, we agree that trans healthcare – and access to it – is a human right that all citizens deserve.
