DESCRIPTION:EmpowerLA proudly presents the 2025 EmpowerLA Youth Conference\, a one-day event on Saturday\, February 22\, 2025 from 8:00am-4:00pm designed to engage and inspire youth from across Los Angeles. This year’s event will welcome 100 young people between the ages of 14-17 who will dive into the role the Neighborhood Council system plays in grassroots local democracy\, attend learning sessions on ways to be civically engaged in the community\, network with like-minded young leaders\, engage with City leaders\, and so much more. \nEmpowerLA seeks to motivate young people to get involved with the Neighborhood Council system and intentionally shape their personal and professional futures. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to hear from City leaders\, attend workshops and panel discussions\, and participate in a resource fair with over a dozen City departments and trusted community partners. This conference is free to attend\, and breakfast and lunch will be provided to all attendees. \nYouth interested in attending the 2025 EmpowerLA Conference will be asked to complete a short application. The 2024 EmpowerLA Youth Conference will take place on Saturday January 27\, 2024 from 9am-4pm. \nTopics include history and purpose of the Neighborhood Council system\, Brown Act and Robert’s Rules of Order\, as well as Neighborhood Council 101s. NC members get the opportunity to learn from each other; meet their City Councilmembers and others who represent them; and connect with service providers. \nThis is the first time the Congress has been held in person since 2019! Neighborhood Council board and committee members\, as well as members of the public who are interested in community service and local issues\, are all welcome to attend. \nEVENT SCHEDULE + WORKSHOPS \nThe event takes place from 8am – 4:30pm\, but you may come and go as you please. See the event schedule here. \nMore than 20 workshops and panel discussions are being offered this year\, in 3 sessions. You can attend any that you like;  there are sessions on everything from hot issues like homelessness and housing\, to skill-building on topics like leadership or land use issues. Follow the link here: http://bit.ly/BudgetDay2019. \nOn the 29th\, registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30am in the 3rd floor rotunda. As breakfast concludes\, guests will be invited into the John Ferraro Council Chamber for discussions on the City’s Budget. Not only about the changes and initiatives driving the FY19/20 plan\, but the actual process and timeline. \nSpeakers for the day will include our Elected Officials\, Department Representatives\, and Budget Advocate leadership. As guests speakers are confirmed\, additional details will be released. \nFollowing the general session\, attendees will be invited to smaller working groups with members from their respective areas in the City to discuss their greatest concerns\, thoughts and suggestions on how their quality of life and how to improve it. \nHere\, each person will be able to share their priorities and get a better understanding of the Budget process to understand how they can influence the decisions made by our elected officials. Current members of the Budget Advocates will help facilitate the discussion and ensure everyone’s thoughts are documented so the Committee can incorporate them into their process this fiscal year. \nWhen the discussion is concluded\, elections will be held to fill vacant seats on the Budget Advocate Committee. To culminate\, each congregation represented will create an action plan to implement within their faith organization. This strategy will be designed for the capacity of the congregation\, focused on their geographic service area and based on an identified population and service model.
