DESCRIPTION:Los Angeles-based Scot Bruce wows fans all over the U.S. and abroad with his unbelievable 1950s- and ’60s-era Elvis Tribute Show.  Because of his uncanny resemblance to the young “King” and his ability to sing\, strum a guitar\, and swivel his hips\, his live show has taken him all over the world. As Elvis\, he has appeared in music videos with Faith Hill and Sheryl Crow\, and had been heard for years as the “Resident Elvis” with his pals Mark and Brian on their popular Los Angeles morning radio show. Scot has also appeared in recurring roles on the hit soap operas Days of Our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful and in the title role in several successful productions of Idols of the King\, including the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville\, the Barter Theatre in Virginia\, and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery. He has had the honor of performing with the legendary Jordanaires (Elvis’ original backup singers) and also performs at Disneyland on a regular basis.

DESCRIPTION:The annual Congress of Neighborhoods happens next week on Saturday\, September 23rd at LA City Hall! \nWhile the event is free to attend\, you’ll get free parking\, breakfast\, and lunch if you RSVP to the event by visiting: http://NeighborhoodCongress.LA \nPlease sign up ASAP\, to help the caterer get an accurate headcount and ensure there’s enough food for everyone. \nThe Congress is a day of education and networking that gathers more than 500 Neighborhood Council leaders each year together with local elected officials and staff from City departments and other LA-area agencies. NC members get the opportunity to learn from each other; meet their City Councilmembers and others who represent them; and connect with service providers. \nThis is the first time the Congress has been held in person since 2019! Neighborhood Council board and committee members\, as well as members of the public who are interested in community service and local issues\, are all welcome to attend. \nEVENT SCHEDULE + WORKSHOPS \nThe event takes place from 8am – 4:30pm\, but you may come and go as you please. See the event schedule here. \nMore than 20 workshops and panel discussions are being offered this year\, in 3 sessions. You can attend any that you like;  there are sessions on everything from hot issues like homelessness and housing\, to skill-building on topics like leadership or land use issues. The full workshop schedule and descriptions are available here. \nHighlights for this year include a keynote speech from Mayor Karen Bass during the opening session in City Council Chambers\, which starts at 9am. DESCRIPTION:Join us on the soccer field and LA Valley College and help us Scare Away Cancer. It will be a booootiful time! At Relay For Life you’ll find community members taking turns walking around a track. You’ll have the opportunity to cheer for local survivors (or participate as a survivor) in our first lap of the day. Caregivers will then be invited to join the Survivors. Local entertainment\, food trucks teams with opportunity baskets and other goodies create a festive time. As it gets dark\, we will light luminaria bags surrounding the track for a memorable luminaria ceremony of Remembering and Celebrating.

DESCRIPTION:For more than 40 years\, student representatives from across California have met annually to find ways to improve our schools. The Student Advisory Board on Education (SABE) is a 4-day long conference where students develop proposals on issues in the California education system that they identified as most pertinent. In this conference\, they‘ll use their skills to find an ideal solution and convert it into an action plan that will be later presented to the California Board of Education. Additionally\, at SABE\, delegates have the opportunity to vote on the next year’s state Student Board Member of the California Board of Education\, their vote representing millions of students across the state. \nThis once in a lifetime opportunity offers students\, such as the youth members in our community\, a chance to create a monumental impact on the Californian education system\, have a direct voice in legislation that affects them\, meet students from different parts of the state\, and so much more.
