SUMMARY:Be an Informed L.A. Renter Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Los Angeles Housing & Community Investment Department (HCIDLA) believes in the importance of informing tenants about their rights and responsibilities\, as well as resources available to them as renters. This workshop will focus on becoming a well–informed renter and provide information and handouts with tips on how to build a positive landlord/tenant relationship. Recent changes in the law\, such as the Tenant Buy Out Notification program\, will also be covered. \nLearn how the Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO) affects you and how the HCIDLA ensures the safety and habitability of rental units through the Systematic Code Enforcement Program (SCEP). \nThe RSO generally covers rental units built before October 1978\, with the exception of one single-family dwelling on a single parcel. Landlords are required to register all RSO units annually and pay a fee to cover program costs. \nThe workshops will be presented by HCIDLA’s Rent Stabilization and Code Enforcement staff along with the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles (AAGLA) and will focus on tenant education. \nRSVP: Online or at 213-928-9075 \n(Free Admission\, seating is limited) \nIf you need translation\, please request it at least three days in advance of the workshop.

These representative will give an opening presentation\, participate in question and answer and close with tangible activity recommendations for engagement in their area of service. \nDay Two: Site Visits – Section 2 will provide a firsthand engagement opportunity for participants. Attendees will visit a Permanent Supportive Housing Campus\, Coordinated Entry System and Homeless Family Service System Intake Site and a Transitional Living Facility. During this portion of the CIVIC U participants will be able to see the facilities speak with service providers and learn about the processes that move homeless persons into sustainable housing. \nDay Three: Recap and Planning “In the final section of the DOC CIVIC U the participants will recap and share\, feedback\, learning and impact of the previous days. To culminate\, each congregation represented will create an action plan to implement within their faith organization. These funds will help complete the project’s design and allow it to be shovel-ready for a contiguous bikeway and walkway along the river. \nThe project area encompasses San Fernando Valley from Vanalden Avenue to Forest Lawn Drive/Zoo Drive.

That’s why Los Angeles launched OurLA2040\, a citywide initiative led by the LA Department of City Planning with the aim of updating our city’s General Plan.\n\nThe General Plan is a document that outlines goals\, objectives\, policies and programs to guide growth in Los Angeles. It is the heart and foundation of the city’s long-range vision and serves as the basis for decisions that affect all aspects of our everyday lives — from where we live and work to how we travel from place to place\, and how we spend our time in the city.\n\nOurLA2040 will help the city gather input on how LA should deal with land use and economic development\, water and energy conservation\, parks and open space\, air quality\, historic preservation\, public facilities and community assets in the future. This initiative will result in a new 20-year citywide plan to be adopted in 2020\, cementing strong and visionary policies to create a more prosperous\, livable\, and sustainable Los Angeles.\n\nThroughout October\, OurLA2040 will host a series of community conversations to get Angelenos\, like you\, to discuss what LA should look like in the decades ahead. To advance service-enriched housing for persons experiencing homelessness\, the Department of City Planning (DCP) has drafted a Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) ordinance. SUMMARY:Wildlife Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Los Angeles\, March 30\, 2017 – LA Animal Services will begin hosting Wildlife Workshops for the community starting this April through December at the City Animal Shelters throughout Los Angeles. Wildlife staff specialists will share educational information with residents on how to handle wild animal situations they may encounter in their neighborhood and help address concerns. \nWildlife live throughout the Los Angeles area and can usually be scene year round. Normally\, wildlife pose no threat to humans and keep their distance. However\, if they have access to food\, water and cover\, these animals may continue to return to certain areas and begin to lose their fear of humans which can potentially lead to them becoming aggressive. \nThe LA Animal Services Wildlife Division works to aid City residents in rectifying wildlife problems in their community and some of the uneasiness they may face with these animals. The program provides on-site evaluations\, education on methods of exclusion\, deterrents and discouragement of wildlife forays into urban neighborhoods. Wildlife are common and an important integral part of the ecosystem and circle of life. Mindful consideration of precautions and basic knowledge of wild animal behavior will create a manageable co-habitation between the community and local wildlife. \nResidents will learn all of this and more at the presentations.
